Eugene “Chick” Lucas has been the only Conshohocken Police Officer to have been killed in the line of duty. Officers Lucas and Cliff Cambell entered the Citron Building located on the corner of Elm & Fayette Street to serve a warrant sworn out by the wife of Michael Ralph, known as “Black Mike”, the warrant to be served was for desertion and intent to kill. Lucas and Cambell entered the third floor room to serve the warrant and a shoot occurred. Officer Lucas was shot in the jugular vein in his neck and died at the scene.
Officer Chick Lucas was murdered on August 13, 1917, his name is etched in honor at the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police monument located in Norristown, PA and at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial In Washington, D.C. Officer Lucas was the first officer killed in the line of duty in Montgomery county.
